POLICY FOR:
PAUL HARRIS FELLOW
AWARDS
The purpose of this Policy is to establish a process for awarding Paul Harris Fellowships to people in the community and from within the Club. Hopefully, adoption of this policy will also encourage Club members to become full or sustaining Paul Harris Fellows.
Each year, the Rotary Foundation Committee will be responsible for the nomination of community/Club members for Paul Harris awards. It will be the responsibility of the Committee to establish criteria for selection. When appropriate, the Committee should solicit nominations for the Club members. As much as possible, individuals selected should represent a broad range of community activities (the arts, education, community service, etc) The Committee shall than submit the finalist(s) to the Board of Directors for final review and approval.
If possible, these awards should be made in November to coincide with Rotary Foundation Month. At the same time, the Club should remind members of the importance of the Foundation, and encourage them to become Paul Harris Fellows (full or sustaining).
The awarding of Paul Harris Fellowships may only occur if the Club has accumulated credits through World Service or District projects of if the Club is willing to contribute to the Foundation. As a general rule, the Club should not use more than one half of the points in any single year. An exception would be if those credits were about to expire. The Club may use one of these Paul Harris points each year to provide matching amounts for Rotarians who want to become sustaining members. This means that up to $1,000 could be used to match initial sustaining pledges with a limit of no more than $100 per members.
Any individual contributions to the Foundation (as a full or sustaining Paul Harris Fellow) may designate the contribution to the Club’s Scholarship Fund. This may only occur if the Club has Paul Harris Credits available). Once the Scholarship Fund has reached the $100,000 goal, this option will be discontinued.
